Friday Spotlight With Author Kelly Stone Gamble
I love Spotlight Friday’s so much. The fabulous Kelly Stone Gamble appeared on a recent Friday Spotlight as a HUGE favour to me and, due to popular demand (mostly mine) she is back, this time for her regularly scheduled Friday Spotlight. And, as if that in itself was not full of enough awesomeness, Kelly has agreed to do a (gasp) flash fiction challenge!
Kelly was given five word prompts, which she had to incorporate into her 200 word or less flash fiction piece within just 24 hours.
Here were her word prompts:
- Smack
- Fever
- Tie
- Reason
- Doughnut
And here is the fabulousity she came up with:
Your flash fiction piece was obviously outside of the realm of historical fiction. Do you often write in genres outside of historical fiction? If yes, which ones?
I write in any genre that gives me a story. I like to research, so historical fiction lets me add that aspect to my writing. I also like to write humor, but I don’t always think I’m funny.
Do you have a preferred place or time of day to write?
I write at night when I don’t get interruptions like ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’ or ‘Mom, what are you doing?’ I also have narcolepsy, so I’m usually up most of the night anyway, except for a nap here and there. Writing keeps me out of trouble.
Do you have an unusual or interesting hobby/hobbies?
That depends. Is dressing as a bunny and screaming “I am your leader” to people walking out of bars at 2 a.m. considered unusual or interesting?
Unusual and interesting, yes. Abnormal, nope, not in my books.
If you had a chance to go cow tipping, would you?
I have a lot of respect for cows, so probably not. Politician tipping sounds like fun, though.
What is the one song you are embarrassed that you know all of the words to?
Harper Valley PTA by Jeannie C. Riley. My go-to karaoke song, because I can’t sing (and neither could she).
Kelly, thank you so much for stopping by the e-rotica blog and getting under the covers with me. Where can everyone stalk you?
Kelly Stone Gamble is a freelance writer and author of Ragtown, a historical novel set during the building of the Hoover Dam. It will be out very soon!
Thanks for having me! I love flash fiction and I love your blog!
Loved having you on the blog, Kelly. Your flash was awesome!
Loved the interview and the… The Break Up, story…Awesome!
Thanks, Karen. I love being at DC’s blog, because she asks some great interview questions.
aw shucks.
Good stuff, as always, KG. You should submit that somewhere.
Thanks, Rob. One of these days, I’ll start submitting things again.
Great stuff, Kelly! Nice flash!
You’ve been flashed!
I feel like “flash” should have a different meaning on this blog.
I didn’t think of that. She told me she wanted a Friday flash, I thought she meant a story.
It could’ve gone either way, really. I’m easy.
*clapping hands* Bravo, Kelly! Excellent person to spotlight for today, DC. 😉
I feel pretty special today, Amberr. Two of my favorite ladies have me on their blogs.
I totally love that! You’re brilliant. I’ve had many conversations just like that one…the donut always wins…damn it!
Of course, being on a diet all the time, this is what comes to mind for me. LOL
Doughnuts have super powers.
Ahahhaaaa! Doughnuts. I’m going to have to have ‘the talk’ with mine. 🙂 Great job Kelly!
And omg. I love Harper Valley PTA! The day my mama socked it to…oh yeah.
If I’m going to wear those Jeannie C Riley mini skirts, I can’t eat donuts, right?
Kelly, what a fabulous flash fiction story–you’re amazing!
Thank you so much, Sandra!
Awesome flash, Kelly! I really should try that method of dieting…
Always talk to your food. If that doesn’t work, play with it.
Heehee! Great story, and great questions too. I’ve only just become aware of the notion of flash fiction in the last few days. What a great example of what it can be. Brilliant post you two!
Dean, you should definitely try ‘flashing’. LOL
You really had me on the doughnut’s side until I realized it wasn’t a bacon doughnut LOL
Please make it a maple bacon doughnut next time – please? The relationship might blossom…a very funny post and I like the Q&A afterward.
It was a warm blueberry cake donut with fresh blueberries and dripping with glaze. A nibble wouldn’t hurt, right?
Fuck no.
That was awesome!
Thanks Carlyle. DC always has fun going on here.
Great job, Kelly! Loved the Prompt Fiction idea too!
Lots of fun, Stephen. Glad you liked it!
I had a feeling she wasn’t talking to someone sitting with her but didn’t pick the doughnut. I thought maybe it was more like a practice run for an actual break up. 🙂
I am now seriously considering talking to all of my food.
Love this, Kelly. D.C. – awesome word prompts. Fun post ladies!
Thanks Natalie! I hope you will join me in the spotlight one of these days!
Delightful! and Hilarious!
Thanks, Toby!
